Question steering column needs putting back togethor

Hey folks,
Got a 90 cherokee, 4L that I just bought. The steering column was taken apart by previous owner for some reason. All electircal works, but tilt is hosed and firmness in wheel is kind of rickety. Drives fine though.

I plan to rebuild. Any pitfalls I hould be wary of?

rebuild steering

I am going to rebuild the column. Have to or buy a used one and reinstall but that seems like more work.

Rebuilding the column isnt that bad - those years its basically a GM column. Replacing it isnt as bad either. This is the link to the write up on how to rebuild it http://elcaminocentral.com/article95.html
Takes care of the looseness as well.

Thanks Pilot,
It's really loose, very wobbly so this is ideal. Great visual references here.

Yep - Just 4 of those darn torx bolts. A little Red Loctite and you will never have a problem.

Best get it fixed now before you have a problem like I did - bolt dropped off into the shaft and locked my steering up! Make sure you grease the rack and pinion on the tilt mech while you are in there as well.

Thanks. Will do. Don't want to do this again if i can avoid it.
Know where I might find that pivot pin tool? That's where I'm at right now. Autozone didn't have them.

all back togethor. Realized I am missing the high beam low beam "actuator cover" and assembly. This vehicle didn't have it when I bought it.
Does anyone know if it can be installed without taking any of the steering apart again?

Unfortunately I dont think it can be as the rod for the high/low switch fits in a slot on that cover piece.

Re: steering column needs putting back togethor

Thanks Pilot,
I found out so today. hi low dimmer actuator must be put on before final assembly. Is actually two parts, a cover and an actuator that connects with a metal rod that runs down the column.
