Transbrake anyone???

This is my first post on this forum, so Im hoping someone can help me out. I just got a 1995 Chevy Cavalier with the 2.2 engine, and I think its a 125c automatic transmission. I just got this thing to play around with, so Im wanting to put on some Nos, and add a transbrake. Anyone know where I can get a transbrake for that tranny??? Anyone used Nos on this motor before, and have any recommendations or advice? Thanks in advance. It has 170,000 miles on it, so its probably gonna come apart the first time, so no biggie Im planning on rebuilding it anyway.

A transbrake? Does that stop the transmission from spinning? Not sure why you'd want one or how you could find one, but I dont think you will... the 2.2 OHV has a pretty small aftermarket.

Oh yeah, its only called Nos in the movies... in real life its called nitrous or nitrous oxide

OK... well if you dont know what a Transbrake is, then you shouldnt worry about what someone calls No2 in real life or in a movie. But for those that dont know...

A transbrake locks an automatic transmission in forward and reverse at the same time. Usually by the push of a button. Then if you run a MSD ignition box with a rev limiter you set the rev limiter to say 3000 RPM.

Now say your racing... you stage... thats pull up to the starting line in real life or a movie Without a transbrake you can either hold the brake and push the gas to rev up... but unless you have really good brakes and a good stall converter you could slide or disqualify yourself. Also if you just wait and mash the gas... you have to wait for the converter to spin enough fluid inside to form a liquid coupling inside. If you dont know the term look it up. Basically there are two sets of fins inside a torque converter... one is on the engine side, one is on the transaxle side... the only thing mating the engine to the transaxle is trans fluid being 'thrown' from one set of fins to the other.

Now if your racing with a transbrake, you simply stage, push transbrake button, floor the gas. The engine revs up to the the rev limiter, and when your tree comes down, or your waved to "go" you just let off the button. Your already at RPM, and you dont need to worry about fluid coupling loss. This is just for us autotrans guys, stick shifters dont need to worry about it... but the same reason of fluid lag/loss is why most stick racers get racing clutches without the comfort springs of stock clutches. When you let off the clutch the pressure plate shoves the friction disc against the flywheel, without any slipping... its either engaged or not engaged... you dont slip one of those clutches. Now instead of doing it like they do in the movies with a Nos button, you simply set your Nos computer to kick on the spray at say 5000 rpm in second gear. Then you can worry about driving not button pushing once your going down the street/strip at whatever speed.

Thanks for the explanation about a transbrake, it was very informative. I havent ever seen one for a Cavalier or a Cavalier with one on it. I'd hit up the Little J-Body Black Book, you might find on in there. Good luck.
