Unhappy 1999 f150 4x4 transmission problem

my truck has 120k miles. in last few weeks i have noticed that after coming to a complete stop, the unit has trouble engaging back to 1st gear, it sometimes lurches while my foot is on the brake, and will jerk a bit until it gets going again. all other gears seem ok. suggestions? or is it time to trade-in.
thanks.

Have you priced new ones lately? If the truck's solid, and motor's good, you're probably ahead of the game if you get a rebuilt tranny from a reputable shop. The payments on a new F-Series will knock your socks off.

I have a 99 F150 and the trans is controled by the computer (PCM) - not like older models. The PCM (Powertrain Comtrol Module) sends power to the solenoid that enguages first gear. These solenoids commonly fail and are fairly easy to replace after the trans pan is removed. You can check the solenoid via a procedure in a repair manual. Email me if you need to know more.
