Hpw do I read the codes?

Ok...I would just take my 95 to Autozone to have the codes read but as my luck would have it, it has the OBDI and not the OBDII. SO they can't read them with the scaner they use. I'm an "old school" mechanic and haven't had to deal with too many code gathering situations. So....my question is....
"How do I read the codes without a scaner?"

I've search the forums and haven't seen anything telling what actually "flashes". I've looked all under my dash and can't find anything flashing to give me codes. I have a Hanes manual ( I have one for every vehicle I own) but it doesn't give me any clue what to look for once I ground the test terminal. Where do I look?

If your's has a 16 pin connector and is OBDI, you may have to get it read with a scanner and a special cable.

Ok....I got it to give me the codes for the SES light. Thanks to Blazee (read that post once b4 but overlooked the section on how to obtain the codes). Had a problem with a dirty EGR. But my ABS light is on and I want to get the codes for that. I'd rather get the codes myself to save a few bucks instead of replacing anything and everything till I find the problem or have the codes pulled by a shop where they charge me out the arse to pull them added to the cost of any parts. I'm working on a VERY tight budget.

Anyone know how I can get the codes for the braking system? I have a list of the codes and their deffinitions but again, the Hanes manual doesn't quite say how to get the codes without a code puller.

12 pin, you can ground it and get the codes (via flashing lights). If you have a 16 pin, it can be read only using a code scanner.
