2000 Silverado Transmission... History?
The 4L60E transmission in my 2000 Silverado Z-71 is not performing very well lately... I'm driving my girlfriend's beater Subaru (with a big Hot Lips air freshener dangling from the rear-view) to jobsites now.
Anyway - 57K original miles on the truck. It barely engages into 3rd, then slips right out. I replaced the fluid and filter... no change. The fluid didn't look bad or burnt to me, but I'm not a mechanic. Mabe a little burn smell. No metal on the pan magnet, no rubber or plastic floating around. I emphasize that I'm not a mechanic, but I am mechanically skilled and think I have pretty good common sense. Can anybody suggest any things I can check or do? (short of bending over at the dealership) Thank you - Johnny Mac |

sorry to tell you this but it needs to be repaired. my buddies sierra did the same thing. had to have the electronic in the tranny replaced. It is the second time in 80k miles. first time at 60k and now again at 80k.

Harsh...
Sounds like an engineering defect? I'm certainly not going to have my transmission torn down every 20,000 miles to have the same part replaced! Hopefully your friend raised hell with his GM dealer... I know I will . Thank you for the info - Johnny Mac |
