Brake Grinding

1999 2.2 or 2.4 Its the 4 cylinder.Grinding sound passenger wheel area.Took wheel off metal shavings on caliper can hear fluid going to caliper the outer lip of the caliper is shiny from grinding with the wheel. What could it be?We are gonna change out the pads and look for a return hose as well.Could this be a frozen caliper or something else.

Re: Brake Grinding

Ok Its fixed. The passenger side pads were down to metal and the rotor was shot in the back.Replaced that rotor and pads think there on right, and did the drivers side.Pads were good on that side as well as rotors.Hopefully we got everything together right but it does not rattle or grind now.

Re: Brake Grinding

Did you check and grease the caliper slide pins, especially on the side of the car the pad was grinding on. A stuck caliper slide pin can cause the symptom you described and will cause it again to the new pads in a short time, if this is what happened. Check this out. Use the generation 3 skinny at the top of this forum for reference on the brakes. Generation 3 and generation 4 brakes are the same. If this is too much for your computer to download, go to Autozone.com and get their brake sections for the Camry from their website.

Re: Brake Grinding

Sounds like you checked it out properly. Sometimes the pad on the piston side of the caliper just wears out a bit sooner than the other side. This may be what happened and your uncle just ignored the noise from the pad wear indicators or simply didn't hear it or the pad wear indicator on that brake just broke off. i had that happen once.
