Exclamation P704 TCC Circuit Malfunction!?!?!

Heres the story... I gotta 2000 Honda Odyssey with 143,000 miles.
The engine check light came on and I had it read and it gave the p704 code. TCC Circuit Malfunction.
I've heard this means replace the tranny? I've also heard that people have replaced their tranny's more than once.
Whats the deal with this?
Anyone with any similar problem!?!
THanks

Was this a P704 or P740? The 740 is usually the lockup on the torq conv. There is a measured amount of slip allowed and you have too much. This is controlled by a solenoid on the outside of the tranny. It could be that the solenoid went bad and everything else is good in the mission. Do you have any other problems like slipping or shifting?

Re: P704 TCC Circuit Malfunction!?!?!

Hello, yes its been some time since the post, but anyways,
Yes it was 740. TCC CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION.
I used a obd scanner to read the code.
Turns out the Oddy's had major recalls on them for this problem. The warranty's were extended from 36k to 100k.
Mine is in the shop being worked on right now. They are debating weather the dealer is going to pay for it or make us pay for it.
If i knew earlier there was such a recall, i would've gotten it fixed. I guess honda didnt put much effort into finding their loyal customers. Im VERY dissapointed that "The Number One Selling Van in America" or for the world, has such a degerating problem. i figured these vans could go to the moon and back... Yea right,
Anyways let me know if anyone else has had/having this dellima, Maybe we can help eachother go through it.
Its Painful!!!

Well the extended warranty wasn't for a P740 code, but sometimes it can be caused by the transmission problem. You didn't say what the fluid looked like: was it black and smelly or just a dark red / brown color? Does it slip or shift bad? This problem can also be caused by the torque converter. However a replacement transmission should have a different torque converter with it. Are they replacing it or fixing your's?

My understanding was it isn't a recall but extended warranty. This means if you have a problem and go to your dealer it was covered, but if you didn't have a problem no need to replace it. That's probably why you were never contacted.

Re: P704 TCC Circuit Malfunction!?!?!

Right it was an extension notice that extended the warrenty on the tranny's to 100k miles.

Chances are if its a good Dealer that has guys that have been doing this for a long time then you will get a trans. If not someone will probably tell you the o-ring around the torque converter is either missing or bad.

Guess only time will tell.

Re: P704 TCC Circuit Malfunction!?!?!

Hey,
The car's still in the dealers shop... They gave me a case number and all that. They're looking into the problem and checking if corporate will pay for it or not. They have yet to contact me.
The van woundnt shift past second or third, It would slip and let the engine revvvvvvvvvv.
I'll keep ya posted... I know thers lots of other people with the same problem...
