Fuel mileage?

I have a 98 EX and I'm getting less than 300 miles on a tank, does this sound right. It's an auto and I have replaced everything (tune up wise)
including rotor and ignitor.
Just curious what everyone else is getting.

TRUE TRUE^^
the way you drive is so importaint. for a long time is was gettin horrible mileage. i thought it was cool to kick it into "vtec" about 1,000 times a day. ( let me tell you, in my 127hp SOHC d16y8; i was really owning the road) lol.

you should be shifting @ about 3 grand for best efficaincy
the past few week i have been getting better gas mileage. around 30mpg is really what you should be getting in the city. i was getting about 28.
with better driving i am now getting 30 mpg. this is still a little low, but i blame the SRI and 200lbs of extra sterio stuffs.

now o the highway i get over 40MPG? I dont know why. my car inparticular might be tuned better for the higghway than the city.

SHIFT SMOOTHLY AND AT LOWER RPM'S
UNPLUG YOUR BATTERY FOR 10 SEC. TO RESET THE ECU

It's my wifes car, and trust me she does not drive it hard.
The reason I ask is because we took it on a long trip and could only get about 290 miles to the tank doing about 75-80 mph on the highway.
I drive a 91 Accord EX with three times the mileage and still get better miles than her car.
Shes got 47,000 miles on her car and I've got 197,000.
Is there something I'm missing?

ah ok well your above awesome milage speed there but still seems low to me.

I would look into your tires aligment any extra weight? check CELs *Check Enginle Lights* if any appear tune up using NGK plugs and wires oil and fuel filter *both fram* even if you feel like trying some injector cleaner.

Re: Fuel mileage?

well, 300 miles for a 12 gallon tank (assuming he runs it completely dry) would give you 25 mpg, which isn't that far off for city mileage for an automatic. But yeah i'm guessing the car isn't run completely dry, so it's not horrible gas mileage, and yes driving 75-80 you're revving at like 3k-3.5k rpm's, which isn't the greatest... i wouldn't sweat it too much.

Re: Fuel mileage?

do you have your a/c on a lot? running your air conditioning drops gas mileage a lot in civics, if you do run a/c a lot on the highway you should average only about 30 mpg

Re: Fuel mileage?

yeah a/c uses like 15hp or somthing. the windows should be enough to control the temp.
it goes like this....
when it is hot--windows go down
when it is cold --windows stay up

now for a fuel filter, i am not sure. can someone explaine it to me.
i can change my plugs, wires, oil and air filter but i have never delt with a fuel filter.
any help please, or am i just stupid.

Your just stupid......Just kidding. Its easier to change the fuel filter then the oil filter. Its that can thinggy mounted on the pasenger side firewall. Just make sure you have some rags underneath it before you pull the lines and dump fuel all over the engine bay.

Just go down to your local Kragen, Autozone, or Napa and ask em for a fuel filter for your car. I think mine was around $10-20. $150 seems ridiculous and makes me think you might have been looking at a FMU unit for a turbo setup and not a fuel filter.

Re: Fuel mileage?

get a 5 speed. ur auto is whats killing u more than likely. and i know ur not getting 300 miles to a tank. theres got 2 be gas left at the bottom when u fill up after 300. like i get like 325 when my needle is way bellow the red mark on my fuel guage and i still have 3 gallons left. i just take the # of gallons i filled up and divided by the mileage i got.
