1997 Tahoe - Fuel Pump noises/problems
Since there seems to be a lot of dialogue on this subject in this forum, thought I would share my own experiences.
Original fuel pump failed a month ago, truck wouldn't start. Have since replaced the pump 3 more times due to a variety of problems. The first Carquest pump caused the fuel gage to be way off and the pump whistled when low on fuel (still had around 8 gallons left) and it would stall with sudden stops (low level fuel pickup problem). 2nd Carquest pump whistled when low on fuel and would also stall with sudden stops. It also had a very noticeable (and annoying) knocking or rattling sound that you could feel pulse through the pressure line from the tank to the engine. The 3rd pump is factory replacement. All sounds and problems have disappeared after installation of the 3rd pump. Don't have anything good to say about the Carquest pumps. Fortunately everything was covered under warranty and had no additional out of pocket costs beyond first repair. Will update this posting if anything changes. |
