Wheels Squeaking
Hello all, 2000 GT here with 60,750 miles. I recently changed all four brake pads. I put ceramics on the front and can't say i'm pleased. I recall trying ceramics in the past and they gave me some sort of trouble. anywayz...I made sure to put a nice coat of the lube on the caliper slide pins and and put the adhesive/lube on the back of the pad plates. After driving for a few mins, sometimes braking hard, I notice a squeaking sound coming for one or more of the wheels. If I apply the brake, the sound will disappear and the squeak increases with the speed of the wheel. All of the anti-squeal and rattle springs were in place and looked ok when I swapped the pads.....kinda lost here on what the problem is. Any tips are appreciated, thanx.

Did you replace the rotors too? Did you turn the rotors instead? If not you may have glazed rotors and due to the hardness of the ceramic pads you are experiencing problems with them seating against the rotors. You may want to consider a softer pad or a new set of rotors. Slotted work well.

i would agree w/ GTP Dad. those ceramics are really hard. work best with drilled/slotted rotors . you might have ur rotors turned, if u have enough disk left, and remove the glaze it might help quiet them down. other wise you might have to change something else to make it stop. \,,/

Could you explain the benefits of installing slotted or drilled rotors over tradiotional rotors?

So, even though the sound disappears when the brake pads contact the rotor, you guys still say to replace one or the other? I did not replace the rotors as they seemed "fine" to me - not warped, not too thin. I have never replaced my rear rotors and only replaced the front ones once.....maybe the last time was too long ago.....maybe like end of 2002. They were severely warped right after I had purchased the car and changed them out for basic ones, $30 a rotor. How much do the slotted rotors run now? the last time I checked, I thought they were at least a $100 a piece and seeing as how Sh*tty the GM brakes are on our cars, I don't see the value in spending that much for rotors, and then having to replace them soon after...again, tips are appreciated, thanx. Also, since I've had issues with ceramics in the past, what kind of pads do you guys recommed, organic, or the semi-metallic? any specific brand? the ceramics I have on now are prostop ceramic...
 and ridenour, that prancing green giant is scary, and funny

so the sounds mostly when you the brakes are not pushed? i had the grinding/squeal before i replaced my brakes/rotors and calipers. I think I had paid 120$ for heavy duty rotors(2) from Auto Zone and the semi-metalic pads were around 50 or 60$. I hav had no trouble with my brakes for over 20k miles. the noise u here is probley due to the calipers NOT opening all the way when u let off the brake, causeing them to drag alittle. Ceramics get really hot and with glazed rotors they only get hotter and make more glaze(slick) on the rotors.
tommy00gt1 slotted rotors keep the brakes cooler by letting the gases escape quickly that build up while braking. hope this hepls

Yup... many thanks xero. That was what I thought the benefit of slots was, but I wasn't 100% sure. Thank you my friend .
