97 Rodeo 4cycl temperature gauge

My temp gauge has always been very low on its reading since I bought it but now it is not working at all. Any suggestions??

Could the switch be bad? I know what the switch looks like because I saw one at the auto parts store, but where is its location?

I see you got roughly the same amount of responses I got when I posted with this problem...

I lost both the temp guage and voltmeter in my 97 LS and replacing the guage didn't work. Any guesses? I am terrible at chasing electrical problems. Is your temp guage one unit with the voltmeter?

On 2.3l and 2.6l engines it is located under the intake manifold.
Look for single yel/blk wire sensor.

Any idea on the 3.2L?

There is 2 sensors show on rear coolant collector pipe near firewall.
Both sensors are located on pass side of this pipe.
On hondaautomotiveparts for '97 3.2l Passport they call one as a termometer unit(A) and second just as sensor(B).
There is a pic of CTS for engine ECM(A) in Haynes p.6-10.
And sensor(B) my best bet is what you are looking for(thermo unit for ECT gauge).
Look for single wire sensor.

Well, I found the temp sender with the single yellow/black wire...by feel. I cannot see it at all! I tried to remove it, but there is no way that I can A) get the wrench down there or B) turn it out if I could get a wrench on it. There is just no room! What's the secret technique?

Well... Lets first check if sensor good or bad.
Disconnect the connector of the sensor.
Connect a 3.4W bulb between the harness side of connector and the ground of the sensor.
When the starter sw is turned on, does the ECT gauge pointer move about 10 sec after that: if "yes" sensor is bad; if "no" check gauge and/or wire.B/c last thing you want to do is replace the sensor.
Now about removal of the sensor.
I actually saw the wire and top of the sensor if look from pass side between valve cover and intake man and you may try to get special rachet with spec sensor socket. This spec rachet has rod inside handle and a little handle on far end connected to this rod and a rod transfer movement to a socket. You turn this little handle and it turn socket on another end. Not sure if you will be getting anough torque if sensor is frozen in coolant pipe. My guess shop procedure will be remove intake man to get access. It is kind of common procedure for spark plug/sensor change if they are hidden under intake. And "brave" 4x4er would be rock the back of the engine up to get some cleareness.
