B16A runs rich, hard to start - HELP!
91 CRX / B16A
Z-dyne ecu AEM intake Integra LS tranny No error codes Problem: Engine is hard to start and runs rich. It used to start fine cold, but now has the problem when it's cold or hot. It cranks for quite awhile, then finally starts but runs rough (rich) for a few seconds while it clears out, then smooths out. But it still runs rich (exhaust smells rich big time) until it's really warmed up. If it's hot, and I shut it off, then re-start it within a couple minutes, it starts ok, but if it sits, then it's hard to start. I have checked and re-checked the fuel pressure, vacuum lines, wire connections, etc. I finally just started randomly unplugging sensors and trying to start to see if this made a difference, even though there are no error codes. Nothing has helped yet. Had fuel injectors cleaned not long ago, so don't think that is it. Any suggestions? I think this problem is actually getting worse... |

Check the o2 sensor and then the cat. converter. when i first had my swap done i had similar problems, replaced both of those and i was golden getting it smogged.

Re: B16A runs rich, hard to start - HELP!
what are you using the z-dyne for?
if your just using it for the current mods you have listed, lose it and throw in a pr3 ecu.

when you first start your car cold, the motor always runs rich till it warms up, thats how it is.

runs rich, hard to start
The Z-dyne was what came with the motor. I actually am getting a stock PR3 ecu from someone on this site. I am hoping that will help cure the problem... I have no idea what chip is in this z-dyne.
I think I will replace the O2 sensors even though there are no error codes. They are expensive though! Any idea where to get cheaper aftermarket ones??

hard starting B16
Switched out to the stock PR3 Ecu... it now idles a little bit better than with the Z-dyne, but still no error codes and still very hard starting. It is actually flooding out and I have no idea why... but now I know it has nothing to do with the ECU.

Re: B16A runs rich, hard to start - HELP!
check for spark. if that looks good, check your injectors and wiring. if thats fine. swap out a different known working ecu.
