After market stereo installation
I have a 2002 Montana and understand that GM uses the car audio system to make the chimes for door opening, etc etc (I don't have OnStar, but I understand that works though the audio system as well).
I am lead to believe that I can just plunk in any after market car stereo and it will function nicely, but I will lose the chimes (which is no big deal, but I would rather keep). So, how can I replace my factory CD player with a nice aftermarket unit and still keep my chimes? Is there some special (and cheap!) adapter I can buy to put between the after market unit and my Montana's connector? Thanks for your help! |

Re: After market stereo installation
I beleive the common thing to do is to relocate the factory deck to another location while still leaving it hooked up. This allows the chimes (and OnStar if you had it) to still operate. There are also some BCM programming options that require the radio to program and relocating the radio allows them to still be modified. I would contact Crutchfield and see if they can give you some help/ideas as to exactly what you might need.
Don't forget that if you have rear audio and want to keep that, you will also need to keep your original radio. |
