turbo...trim...?

I have a stock T-25 turbo and I recently discovered that it has 50 trim installed. Now my question...the "trim" refers to the compressor wheel right? Stock the t-25s are 45 trim? What are the pros and cons of bigger trim? Thank you for the help.

i dont think that you have any idea what you are talking about trim wise. the "50"trim is a t04a,b,c,e,etc . you have a t25 there is no way to stuff a 50trim wheel in there. a t28 wheel maybe but not a 50trim. do some research on turbos, because a 50trim turbo is at least 4x bigger than what you have.

Re: turbo...trim...?

Trim says nothing about the turbos size, but rather the inducer to exducer ratio You can have a turbo the size of a quarter and a turbo the size of your head both have a "50 trim" wheel.

Re: turbo...trim...?

When does your turbo spool? But you don't have a 50 trim in a t25.

Re: turbo...trim...?

Dyno it and prove it. If u lag alot then its probably a t-28 wheel but i doubt its a 50 trim. Have u seen a 50 trim wheel yet?

Re: turbo...trim...?

I think everyone missed the part where I said the T25 wheel could be a 50 trim wheel, even if its not THE "50 trim" wheel. The trim is not related to the size of the wheel.

Re: turbo...trim...?

Well I'm sorry I'm still new to turbos and such. The guy that owned the car before me didn't help me much either. I'm assuming it's the stock turbo. The only thing I can tell from looking at it is that it is a Garrett turbo. The guy told me it has 50 trim installed but that is all he told me. It starts to spool around 3500 and full boost is around 4500 or so. It seems to spool pretty damn fast compared to other turbo cars I have ridden in. Thank you for any help.

Re: turbo...trim...?

Oh and the lag is very minimal. Even with the stock blow off valve. It maybe drops 3-4 pounds then climbs back to full boost fast. If it would help I could get some pictures. I'm sorry I can't provide more information. I know that the turbo was replaced when the tranny/engine was rebuilt but he didn't know if the guy before him put an aftermarket or stock back in it. If thats confusing I'll simplify it for everyone...there were 2 previous owners before me. First guy did all the modifications so the guy I bought it from doesn't know jack shit.

Re: turbo...trim...?

Okay I got ahold of the previous owner and he told me that it is deffinatly not a t-25. It is a Garrett model turbo though, obviously (it says it on it the damn thing). Other than knowing it is not a t-25 and that the turbo has 50 trim he said he is clueless to anything else.

Re: turbo...trim...?

isn't the t25 a garret turbo just a small one?

Re: turbo...trim...?

The t25 is a garret, but full boost around 4k rpm would be characteristic of a to4e 50 trim. What is the manifold? A full garret turbo will not bolt up to the stock manifold and O2 housing. I'd be a little nervous if the previous owner can't say for sure what turbo is on there. T28 would bolt up. Got any pics?

Re: turbo...trim...?

I don't have pics yet. As for the manifold I'm pretty sure it's stock. The cover for the manifold was taken off and it is rusty as shit so I'm assuming it would be the stock one. I was wondering would an evolution manifold work with a to4e turbo?

Re: turbo...trim...?

If it is a "bolt on" "hybrid" to4e type turbo, then you can use the EVO3 or SBR manifolds. If its a full garret to4e you need a t3 manifold, like the SFP or turblonetics unit for example.
