Robertson's remark on taking out Chavez
I am surprise no one has commented or posted about this yet.
Pat Robertson, the religious broadcaster and founder of the Christian Coalition announced to his viewers of The 700 Club show on Monday that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez "is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us badly." "We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability" "We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one strong-arm dictator. Its a whole lot easier to have some covert operatives do the job and then get it over with" Full story here. WTF? I find it ironic a leader of a religious group is calling on killing a leader of a country being so religous and all. Hmmmm that surely sounds like other religous groups lately. Whats you take on it folks, fire away, but keep it clean. TS out

700 club. That should be your first clue.
In all honesty, Pat Robertson is a nut. good thing HE isn't the president.

WWDD.. What would Duyba do.
I think its funny that you don't see the OBVIOUS connection to religious right wing nuts and the current party in charge. Its called a MORAL MAJORITY. I call it a LYNCH MOB. What better way to draw attention away from the war in Iraq, than to pick a new target halfway around the world... Flame me all you want, but I don't find it at all unexpected or unusual to hear a religious (and republican) nut job say something despicable. Happens all the time. He just happens to get national airtime to do so.

Re: Robertson's remark on taking out Chavez
Over and over again we see how some people who claim to be religious can justify doing anything they want, even when it contradicts their own religion. I've been long convinced that organized religion is the root of all evil.

Re: Robertson's remark on taking out Chavez
Anyone see 'The Daily Show' the other day where Jon Stewart showed a clip of Robertson praying to God to remove more justices from the Supreme Court? I know some of the local news stations played the clip yesterday along with that one.

Re: Robertson's remark on taking out Chavez
Chavez is buddies with Castro (who himself is the victim of many documented assasination attempts by the US). Pat Robertson may have spoken unwisely, but his words are also redundant on the act of taking out Chavez. His statement is not only late, it is one of those things that is quietly understood but should never be voiced publicly.
Furthermore he tries to paint Chavez as a militant secular communist and simultaneously as a promoter of Islamist extremism when it is obvious that the two are diametrically opposed. He knows this but for the sheeple he uses the words he thinks will harness their deepest fears and hatreds. Is he any different to other extremists calling for violence to be visited upon their enemies? I think not. Here's another perspective on the whole thing: http://www.guardian.co.uk/venezuela/...555809,00.html

2stroke, guess your post was posted twice twice for impact! (Liked the starting "Jesus", also, nice touch) Well, it seems that Robertson has backed up what I've been thinking for many years: he's a f-in hypocrite!!. Taking peoples' money to live in style while suggesting he's a holy man. Piddle.

He has been and always will be a lunatic among the likes of Kennedy. Thats not really fair - Robertson asked for someone to be killed but Kennedy actually did it.

I acutally think the comment is absolutely histaricle and think everyone should laugh at it. I mean come on, a "man of God" saying someone should be killed. It's an oxymoron of sorts.

Does anybody else find it funny that in the "related links" at the bottom of the page there is this statement: "Great deals on Hugo Chavez Shop on eBay and Save!"

Re: Robertson's remark on taking out Chavez
Pat Robertson knows just enough about politics to be truly dangerous.
I agree with the above posts, but beyond the obvious (a Christian minister condoning murder) he knows NOTHING about politics, diplomacy or internationa affairs. The US is partly dependent on Venezuelan crude. Any disruption in that supply would provide a significant supply shock, shortages and price spirals. It is to the benefit of the US for venezuela to be stable and predictrable. Assasinating its leader would create a power vacuum there, instability and even more resentment of the US. It would cause more problems than it solves. Furthermore, who is to say that any new leader in Venezuela would be better? |

Re: Robertson's remark on taking out Chavez
I'm no fan of Pat Robertson but in the US we have free speech.
People can use there right to free speech to show how smart or dumb they are sometimes the person speaking doesn't know which one he is.
