Loss of Power & Crazy Speedometer when the AC is on
My 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo is having a bizarre issue, at least it seems bizarre to me.
When I run my A/C (defrost included) my speedometer starts jumping, it sounds like my jeep is reving but feels like it is neutral. This happens at both stops and while driving at any speed. As soon as I turn off my A/C the problem stops. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas about the cause of this issue, I would be eternally grateful, as it is very hot right now without the A/C. Sound like you have a short somewhere in the wirring. Take a good look at the wirring on your AC and your speed sensor. Also check your voltage output when the Jeep is running without AC and with AC. Cou be weak Alt. Only other thing is that they The AC and Speed Sensor might share the same Ground. Have to Check my manual. Check the Tack to see if the engine speed increases when this happens.
