Sunroof only opens once in a while.

What the hell is going on? its been doing this since i bought it. i try to open it and it goes up but never back. i close and open it like 100 times (no joke) and it finally will go back. could my motor be going bad? or is it getting caught on something? ive put wd40 on the tracks, which didnt seem to help at all....

Motor is probably going out. Could get a bad relay also.

Re: Sunroof only opens once in a while.

the tracks may have warped slightly, see if the window is coming back evenly at both sides.

Re: Sunroof only opens once in a while.

In the back behind the tracks, there is a little notch-like mechanism that must recess into place in order for the sunroof to close completely. If you're trying to open it and it gets stuck, it could be like crxlvr said and have warped tracks. The motor itself is a pretty simple device. I believe you can actually take a screw driver and manually turn the motor to open it fully if you really wanted to. Anyway, it's all hazy to me now because I totally removed my complete sunroof assembly and customized a basic roof in it's place...

Re: Sunroof only opens once in a while.

(assuming it's a CRX) chances are the rails are dirty and gummed up with crap.

I just replaced my Rusted out Moonroof on tuesday with a Un-rusted panel. since my original panel had not beed used in over a year, it was a little stiff opening.

If you drop the head liner there is a Nut you can turn to Open and close the Panel manualy. once you get it open, clean and Lube them rails, use WD-40 to clean em but use somethign else to lube em, like teflon grease. then with the motor work it in, back and forth. now if it does not move at all... replace the motor.

Re: Sunroof only opens once in a while.

Mine wouldn’t open at all for a while so I took apart the switch and found out it was all gummed up inside the switch so I cleaned it up and it worked great. Recently it would only shut sometimes I had to keep hitting the button took apart the switch same thing. The grease that they used in the switch dries in the heat and gums everything up. the switch controlls both the up and down and the forward and back if the one part is gummed up and not contacting that could be the problem just like mine. hope that helps.
