Swapping in a B18C1
Hi,
If one was to swap in a B18C1 into a stock RS or LS integra(95), what else will that someone need to change? Is it possible to just change the motor or there will be some additional modifications needed. What would be the different steps into upgrading an RS or LS, and what is an average estimate($) of doing it? Thanks! |

if you just want to swap the engine without upgrading the internals then nothing needs to be done. its a strait swap..pretty easy. the engine should be somewhere in the 2000-3000 range. i dont know about installation though...but you might be able to do it yourself with a couple friends, a nice helms manual, and a little confidence.

Thank you for your reply,
Will the VTEC work if It's simply swaped in, Does it need some extra chips or "controlers" (I don't know much about cars as you can see). In GSR the VTEC engagement happens at 4400, will this happen? What extra features (the major important ones) do we need in order for RS or LS to perform as a GSR or better, I have the price of an engine now what else and how much$?(installation excluded) Thanks! |

you will need the engine and the ecu for it to work. the vtec should kick in around 4400 as in the GSR, you are using the gsr engine.
if you put the gsr engine in an rs the car probably will perform better than a gsr due to its weight..its slightly lighter than the gsr. but it won't be much better. i would say before you do the engine swap to read up a bit. some reading online, reading manuals. get a helms manual (about 60-70 bucks), mabe goto an acura dealer and see if they can give you some kind of info on it. basically, if you are going to do it make sure you know exactly how to do it before you start. once you get the engine out you gotta know how to get it back in. with a strait b series swap it isnt really that hard. even make some drawings of the engine bay if that will help, mark off some tubing and where it goes, then compare it to the other engine...whatever you need to do to help you remember what things are. and unless you want to upgrade the internals it shouldnt cost much more than the engine itself. maybe some new coolant lines or hoses but those shouldnt cost you much, i think you could do them all for around 100. if you do want to change some internals then it could cost you anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand.

the gsr may still be quicker cuz it has a close ratio transmission.

4400? VTEC? My VTEC doesnt kick in until about 5800 RPM. Mine is a 95 tho. Does the 96+ kick in eariler since it's OBDII or what?

Thanks for your replies,
about the close ratio transmission what needs to be done? Could a negative drawback be that when you redline on the stock RS or LS engine, and then switch to a higher gear, that will cause the RPM to fall under the minimum for vtec engagement? Thanks! |

you could always put a gsr tranny in too if you had the funds. I'm not sure if a ls/rs tranny will work with a b18c1?
i may be wrong, it may work...

any trany from any b-series engine will work with the other b-series engine. but considering you want the gsr engine, you might as well get the trany too...if you want the gear ratios. but the closer ratios make for faster pickup. if you want a higher speed than you want a wider ratio. but you really can't drive that fast so on the street the closer ratios are better.

if you want to go turbo than the ls tranny would be better.
i agree w/ sleeperteg about the clutch and flywheel. you should get them since your doing the swap. i think you should keep the ls tranny, get a lite weight flywheel and run nos. i have a gsr tranny (ls tranny blew up) and my car raps out way to quick. good luck w/ the swap!
