engine misfire - help

1996 Suburban, 121000 miles, replaced coil, cap and rotor three months ago and now the truck is misfiring again and shows a misfire in #1 cylinder code. Took off the cap and rotor again and it is green inside with a hole in it - any advice?

Re: engine misfire - help

I would suspect that may be the wires are failing. You could take #1 wire off and place it in a different location and see if the misfire follows where you put the wire.To me that hole means very high voltage trying to find an easier path than the wire to the plug.Plugs not changed?

I had repeated mis-fire problems for a long time. I replaced plugs, wires, etc. When I had it in to get the intake gasket replaced, I talked to my mechanic about it. Buy the best wires you can - he recommended AC Delco. Also, do not buy Bosch Platinum plugs. He told me he has replaced lots of these on misfiring chevys. I replaced my plugs and wires again with this advice in mind and have not had further trouble. I did have the dist cap replaced as well as the dist pinion gear so I can be totally sure of the true root cause.
