'96 lumina not starting

I just bought a 1996 lumina 3.1 engine. When I tried to start it this morning it just clicked. But it didn't sound like it was coming from the starter, it sounded like it was over behind my fuse box. The fuse box is in the dashboard between the passenger door. Is there a relay box behind it or somewhere or there because I pulled number 11 fuse for the starter and that looked ok. Is there anything else I should check before I go and replace the starter?

Wink

I suggest you to check the battery. I had the same problem a couple weeks ago. I could only hear clicking sound when I turned the ignition on. The car did not crank at all. After rplacing the battery, my car worked fine.

Good luck.

Re: '96 lumina not starting

I finally got around to working on it. First I tried to jump it to see if maybe it was just a dead battery. It did the same thing, just clicked real fast. So I figured it must be the starter. I tried jumping posts on the starter and nothing happened so i figured it had to be the starter. As I was taking it out and nut rusted to the solenoid and I ended up breaking it to get it off. So I took it up to autozone and told them I needed a new one. And just for shits and giggles I had them test the old starter to see if that was the problem or if I had to look somewhere else. It worked fine, besides the broken stud. So I bought the new starte, bolted it all back up went to start it and nothing. So I go back over all the connections and everything looks good. I turn the head lights on and they are brown and ready to die. So I disconnect the battery and hook the jumper cables up directly to the car terminals and it starts. So I end up replacing the battery also. Now it starts. But it still makes that noise. It's like a fast click for maybe 1 sec, then the motor turns over. Someone told me it might be the ground wire that goes from the battery to the engine block but I haven't checked that yet. Any other ideas?
