electrical?

Hey all, 93 grand am se quad 4 2.3. When I turn the key the car turns over fine but doesnt start, I have power to the radio but no dash lights. Then Ill wait and try again maybe an hour later, dash lights come on and I can hear the fuel pump and the car starts just fine. Replaced ignition switch and module with no difference, cant find any burnt wires, any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated.

-check your fuseable links (on starter post by batter cable)
-make sure everything there is cleaned up
(toilet bowl cleaner, then spray off with electrical cleaner)
-check all of your fuses (ohm meter with fuses installed and ignition off)
-check relays (not sure if that power runs thru one or not)
-if none of the above i'd say you have a bad power wire or ground

Re: electrical?

if its a turning over then it should hav good continuity. check to see it gets spark when it just turns over but doesnt start. those pesky coils or IM might be on the fritz. Good Luck \,,/

he's already changed the ignition module, so I wouldn't think its that unless he got a bad one, but why would both do the same thing? the dash lights still indicate that he isn't getting power or ground, unless thats a seperate problem. I would suggest looking at a good wire diagram for the vehicle, see if there is any reason both things happen at the same time, like they share a power wire (dash lights & computer, ignition control module, crank position sensor, or fuel pump). I gather that when it doesn't start (dash lights are dark) that you don't hear the fuel pump run? The fuel pump should run for 30 seconds when you first turn on the key, if it isn't then you either have a bad pump or its not getting power for some reason. (bad wire, relay, ect...)
