mysterious rear end clunk?

hi i have just recently purchased a 97 limited edition TT. i have noticed that when i press the clutch and put the car in first gear, i would hear the rear end clunk. and when i would shift to any other gear, the same clunking noise would come out.

it only happens when i shift it into any gear with the clutch all the way down. the shifter shifts in very smooth, and the clutch pedal does no feel spongy at all.

is this sound normal? i'm thinkin its the torsen diff locking from the load being put on it.

thanks for the help.
