car died! HELP

A little info before we get into this: 1999 gp gtp, w/just under 100k, recently (3 weeks ago) installed DHP PCM and K&N drop in, with other mods being put in soon, depending on the severity of the problem. Havn't gotten around to having a case learn done yet (lazy/busy), but i put the chip in 3 weeks ago and everything has been running very well (as far as i could tell) up until today....

While driving to my girlfriend's house, my car shut down while idling at a stoplight. I turned the radio off, lights off, put it in park, and restarted it after a few tries. I drove to my girlfriends house, because i was pretty close, noticing that, while idling, my rpms were fluctuating quite a bit until i turned off my radio, once again, but no battery light, or any other warning light came on.

While driving home, i noticed the same thing. (decided i would take it in to a shop tomorrow, didnt make it) Going up a hill, i floored it to see what would happen (up until then i ONLY had problems while idling / starting, i wanted to see if this was the only time that these problems were occuring)

She shut off completely, no engine, no power steering/brakes. Pulled over to side of road. Tried starting, wouldn't, but it would try. All electrical worked fine (lights radio, windows, etc.) I waited for a while, after calling my mom for a ride, and then tried starting it again, a lot of clunking/bad noises, but it didnt start, so we pushed it to a side road/parked it.

Calling a towtruck/taking it to a mechanic tomorrow morning, but does anyone have any ideas??? This car has had absolutely NO problems up until now, mechanics had been offering to buy it from the people i bought it from when they took it in for oil changes, absolutely no signs of any problems, until now.

It sures sound like its crankshaft position sensor related. Might want to consider the case learn since you put in that new DHP v1.0 PCM.

Re: car died! HELP

yeah i definately am going to do that, i guess i was just putting it off. What i dont understand, though, is that it ram perfectly fine with the new chip for 3 weeks, absolutely no problems at all until yesterday. If it was a problem this big with the crank pos sens. wouldnt i have noticed something? The car has quite a few miles on it, if it isnt the chip, im thinking that it might be a fuel line problem, but we'll see i guess, car just got taken to my mechanic.

Ignition or fuel. I guess you can flip a coin. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

BTW - Nice ride!

Re: car died! HELP

MAF sensor. K&N drop in shorted it out, ironic, ii had just learned that GM dealers were voiding warranties on gp's w/ k&n filters because this was happening to some people. $300 to fix, could be worse.
