Classic...WRX vs SRT4

Haven't posted on here in a while again
I was on my way back from toronto on the 401 (big ontario highway), not many cars out, just enjoying the nice hot summer air and listening to my euro beats...you know that high pitched techno shiznit.

Just installed my new intercooler hoses the day before so I was enjoying listening to the amplified sound of my small turbo spinning its ass off in 5th gear (oh and the couple hundred rpm less of lag too ). I see a red neon get off the ramp and onto the highway a few hundred meters up, see the big wing and i know its an srt4. I pull up beside him and what do you know, its one of my buddies! I remember talking to him a few weeks back telling me how he SMOKES wrx's on the highway, and takes STi's by a few car lengths too. He knew I had a good mod list but was still confident that he'd take me on the highway (he's got an intake and he raised boost 4psi from stock with this wastegate DIY mod...about 20whp extra or so).

So I was anxious to see how I would do against him, seeing as SRT4s and WRXs are always on an ongoing fight! I pull up to him and let him know I'm willing to challenge, he says lets go from 3rd gear. I was like shiiiiit the srt4s 3rd gear is fuckin crazy from what I hear. Anyways on with the race:

We punch it in third, my tiny td04 whinning like a bitch trying to keep up to the srt4s 16g, he's pulling on me by about a car, i cant even hear my music anymore cuz all i can hear is whhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee , whhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeee, shift into 4th, hit my max boost and start reeling his ass in so slowly, by the end of fourth i got about 3/4 car length on him.

We stopped at the gas station and he said he was fucking absolutely shocked. He thinks my car is some sort of fucking freak from the factory. The 50 minute ride back to my house i had the biggest fuckin grin on my face and now I cant wait to get some cash and get an upgrade and toss this small snail in the garbage.

sorry for the long story~

Hm..I don't know man..you'd have to have alot of mods to keep up with a modded SRT-4 from a roll. WRXs have loadds of turbo lag.

Good race man, i haven't even got to run a stock sartie yet, let alone a modded one that would hand me my ass... All i get is Mustang GT's...

What turbo are you going to upgrade to, and what else is planned for your car?

Re: Classic...WRX vs SRT4

oops forgot to include mods....
Turbo back exhaust
Up pipe (cuts lag down like a mofo)
Headers
Intake
UTEC (engine management tuned by professional subaru guy)
Silicone intercooler hoses

So ya obviously I'm not stock

Josh - I'm thinking either a Large 16g or 18g (fitted for wrx's obviously cuz the normal DSM's won't fit). Also I plan on upgrading clutch and flywheel obviously, a better tune (dyno), and the supporting mods for the turbo ie. injectors + fuel pump.

16g if you wanna push your transmission. 18g if you wanna push your motor.

I don't feel like searching the subaru boards for you. www.nasioc.com there you'll find numerous wrx's running 20g and higher turbos

Re: Classic...WRX vs SRT4

Since you have a WRX..I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and just say you misunderstood what I meant. So what I mean is..with a 16g..you're going to be making enough power to push your transmission to it's limits. 290-330awhp. Then about 330awhp-360awhp with an 18g. Around there..you're going to start pushing the reliability of your motor.

Re: Classic...WRX vs SRT4

Anytime you add power it's gonna put equal stress on both engine and tranny, just depends on what holds out the longest, i'm assuming you mean the tranny will go before the engine though.

Cool. People put 20gs on WRXs. That doesn't mean they don't have built motors/transmissions. And it also doesn't mean that they have a reliable car. You hear about people blowing up their cars all the time..one of the reasons? Because they heard some guy out in so and so place put "this" or "that" mod on his car and it runs fine.

Definitely. It's very common knowledge that the WRXs five speed isn't exactly the epitome of strength. Compare it to the 10 bolt in LS1 f-bodies. It's the weakest link. Now, the STis 6 speed..that's practically indestructible. I'd compare it to perhaps a viper spec T-56.

Re: Classic...WRX vs SRT4

Yes the 6spd STi trannys are the way to go for upgraded power...since I am looking at Large 16g turbo, I SHOULD be looking at doing a tranny swap but I don't feel like I absolutely NEED one since I will rarely beat on my car with the new power. If I were to go 20g or higher then yes DEFINATELY tranny swap and rebuild motor, even swap again.
