What Would You Buy?

Let's say you guys just bought a 1991 Camaro, and had $500-$700 left over from your buy. What would be the best upgrade for a bone stock, 3.1 v6 that already has duals w/Flowmasters.

probably a supercharger, if you can find one that cheap. If not rebuild the motor to make it better, that and tranny if you can. OR once again, best bang for your buck.. new rear end with like 4.11 gears

Yeah boreing it out would be good, but dont know where you could find a supercharger for a 3.1, lol.

OR if the engine has alot of miles, save the money for problems and such.

Yeah dude.. save it, especially if its a daily driver, because if the problems arent there yet, they will be.

hey let me ask you while i have you here. do you have a 3rd gen car? if so could you take a picture of the rear hatch/latch mechanism! I'm meaning without the plasict trim panel because I can't get mine mounted correctly. It don't close all the way. it's like I cant get the whole assembly low enough, seems like the holes are in the wrong place!!!

Re: What Would You Buy?

regarding the rear hatch mechanizm, im guessing its in the up position, they are motorized, if you are closing the trunk, and its not pulling down, you have an electrical problem with the motor assembly. the correct operation is that you close the lid, until the lock clicks shut and then you let go, the trunk should close the rest of the way by itself.

in regards to performance mods for a 3.1L V6, im afraid you dont have many. the sixers in the third gen camaros are pretty animic and there isnt a very big performance following for them. also the swap from a sixer to a V8 is not a light undertaking and will be lengthy and expensive. youre better off using this one as a daily driver until gas prices drop (note the unreasonable optimism in my voice) and then sell it and buy one that has a V8 and go from there.

No, not exactly. It's not motorized, it does have a switch on the center console to release it. So if i understand what your saying its supposed to take it down the rest of the way. I guess thats why the assembly is on a small track that slides up and down, geeze I think i finally understand now. well, do you know were I can find more info on these mechinisms? Thank you very much, its like that little light bulb over my head just lit up!! this forum is the greatest!!!!

Re: What Would You Buy?

The motor for the hatch might be burnt up or the fuse may be blown or something like that. Those motors failing is a very common problem with these cars. Replacements can be found off of ebay or you can poke around in junk yards. All third gens or at least the later ones have the motorized hatches and then they stopped when they cam out with the fourth gens.
Heres a good web sites www.thirdgen.org
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com
www.camarosource.ca

Deffinetly save your money instead of messing with a v6 that old.

Re: What Would You Buy?

would the 3.4L have more of a performance following???

and yeah, all third gens have the motorized pull down, hence the tracks you pointed out. so like i said, there is some sort of electrical problem causing the motor not to activate and pull down the hatch like its supposed to.
