Ok now I'm pissed

I finally got my system installed. When they mounted my sub amp they using 3 metal piece to try to hold it up (shown in the picture below)

Yesterday when I was drive I heard a loud bang come from my trunk followed by a loud spark. I pulled over immediately and checked it out. Come to find out that the the top part of my amp had come detacted from my back seat causing the amp to fall forward, which then caused the power wire and ground wire terminals to stop themselves on the body of my car.

Afterwards I layed my seats down and it seemed to be okay until 3 minutes later when my subs to viberate really loud. Tried to turn down the volume however even with the deck on 0 the subs where at full volume. I think that my $1,400 amps is now fried because they did not mount it to the back of the seat good enough. Taking the car back to the place of install on thursday and they are going to bench test my amp and check it out. Hopefully they will fix it for me (or send of to cadence and have it repaired) because they do not carry the type of amp I have and don't want any other type of amp.

Re: Ok now I'm pissed

Yeah I know. That is what I am going to tell them, especially since as heavy as that amp is. If they don't replace it with another amp (another cadence amp) or fix that one I am going to look into legal actions

Re: Ok now I'm pissed

just fyi, when ever your ground is not very solid, you will get a constant "rumbling" going through your amp and going into your subs. some people will notice this after they turn the car off and the amp is still on; especially if you're using the stock amp and aftermarket amp. usually tightening your ground to a better source or using a "ground loop isolator" on your sub amp will fix this.

Re: Ok now I'm pissed

Wasn't rumbling. It was completely fine until the amp fell forward and the terminals landed itself on the body of the car. That is what shorted my amp out. the ground it fine, and also I am not running the factory amp.

Check out this pic and you'll see the other amp that I am running my speaker off of. The stock amp is disconnected. I am only running these 2

Re: Ok now I'm pissed

Okay well I took the amp big to the place where I had it installed yesterday. Apparently it fried out 3 resistors in the amp. They kept the amp over night and they are going to show it to the shop manager when he gets in today. For what the installer guy was telling me that it is something that is fixable. They are going to see about getting the resistors replaced and fixing my amp.

Re: Ok now I'm pissed

I wouldn't go back to that place again...ever...just get your stuff fixed right and run. That's one of the lamest jobs I think I've ever seen. Didn't you look at the work they did before you left the shop? If I saw that shit, I would have immediately said "ehh...you're kidding, right?" If NOTHING else at all, it looked unprofessional and tacky...not to mention it wasn't strong enough. All in all, I'd be pissed. Good luck with em, man.

Oh...and yes...it probably is fixable, so don't worry. I COOKED my bass (guitar) amp back in the day. Had a power amp for a subwoofer covering the vent to the amp that runs my bass half stack...didn't think anything of it until I saw smoke BILLOWING out of my amp. It was SO BAD that the guy I had fix it had to get schematics to fix it! But...it got fixed and works great to this day. It doesn't sound like yours is too bad...should be ok, man.

Re: Ok now I'm pissed

Yeah I looked at it but, you have to realize that there really was place eles to put that big amp so I kinda had to give him leway on it. Especially since I had 2 amp and and neither one would fit under a seat or anything. I was kinda in a catch 22. I am not going to worry about it. That amp is hard to mount because there was not screw holes to mount it in to at the top. some he had to advise a way to do this. I knew it was tacky and there was a chance it would not hold but at the time it was a chance I had to take. But good news I talked to them yesterday and they are sending out my amp to get it repair and not cost to my self. It will be sent out Monday and I was told that it could take up to 2 weeks for it to be repaired but at least the are taking responisibility for the amp and correcting there mistakes, and I have to give them credit on that because I had to make no threats to take legal action against them or even fight with a manager, and means alot to me. I will have them reinstall the amp, but I actually came up with a way to mount the amp then will not fall. It will require drlling a hole on the inside of the amp (there are no resistors or circuts anywhere near the area that we will drill it's just a then piece of metal) and mount it up with screws like we did in the bottom. So I'll keep everyone posted when everything comes back.

Re: Ok now I'm pissed

Ok well I am happy to say that I got my amp back 2 days ago and it reinstalled it last night. Pretty sad though if you look at the date I started this thread compared when I got it back.
