Re: cig lighter not working

If your car is pre-'90 or '91 (I don't remember) there will be four torx screws to remove to access the lighter socket, loosen that part of the dash, then test to see if it is getting 12v, If it is, go to a parts store and pick up a new socket for $5, if not you probably have a short and a blown fuse. I don't remember which fuse it will be but it shoult be under the dash with the others.

Re: cig lighter aom

my car's a 92, and it hasn't worked since i bought the car about a year ago. i checked all the fuses and they all look good, i just wasn't sure if someone who owned the car before me might have taken a fuse out or something. so it's probably the socket, good to know that their pretty cheap

Re: Re: cig lighter aom

It's a little more work to get at yours. I think you have to drop the steering column (I don't remember) which requires removing the panel and pad under the drivers side dash, so you can remove the piece that goes around the gauge bezel. They you have access to the socket, and ya they are pretty cheap.

actually i looked at it and the fix was about as easy as it could be. the panel that holds the lights, the cigarette lighter, the rear window defroster, and surrounds the guages just pops off. what happened was the metal attachment that gives the ligher the power and pops the lighter out was disconnected, just hooked it up and it works fine.
