could my pcm be toast?

right now i am having problems with my 94 Z28 m6 sometimes it will start and run fine and once it gets heat soaked it will either shut off or once you shut it off it wont restart it will hit a couple times but thats it but anyhow when its running its throwing a code i believe its the egr failure code i got out of it awhile ago with a scan tool but im not sure so i tried to get the codes out of in manually by jumpering the diagnostic port with the ground port (12 pin OBD connector) the cooling fans come on like they're supposed to but it will not throw out any codes not even a code 12 it wont blink period

so is my computer toast or whats going on i believe i got the problem traced back to the ignition module or the coil but if the computer is screwed up that could be whats wrong as well i have tried to get codes out of it before when the car was running fine so its nothing new that i havn't been able to get the codes out of it

Re: could my pcm be toast?

you cannot flash codes on a fourth gen, you have to use a scanner. hotwiring the leads on a DLC in a fourth gen might cause some sort of electrical damage, so if it wasnt toast before, it might be now. get a scanner and check it out.

Re: could my pcm be toast?

jumping A to B on a OBDI hybrid may cause damage to the body control module.

Re: could my pcm be toast?

It won't damage anything but will not flash codes. Only 4th gen that will flash codes is 93. 89 is correct you need a scanner or a OBD 1 cable and then you can scan the codes with your PC or laptop.

well i went ahead and did it i ordered a PCM i figured it had to have been the computer because of all the goofy stuff it was doing i would turn the key on and every once in a while both cooling fans would turn on and if i was able to get it running it would die right away and then the air pump and the fuel pump would cycle on and off even though the motor wasn't running when it wouldn't start at all you could cycle the ignition on and off a few times and usually get it to hit a couple more times some goofy stuff going on there

but anyway just to make sure i disconnected the 4 prong connector from the ignition module and by turning the motor over you should get an AC voltage from the computer to cycle the ignition module and i got nothing so im pretty sure its the computer and i hope cause i ordered the damn thing so i hope it work

wish me luck
