install radio

installed a new radio on 1998 cavalier (sony) used universal plug
harness etc. now for some reason the dash lights are out. checked
the dimmer switch conection and it is hooked up.
only difference I can see was that on the harness out of radio there was no wire to connect the dimmer wire for radio harness to.
Could this be problem.
