A few questions...

98 5.9 with 115k miles.

1. When i turn on the left turn signal it will flash normally then it will begin to flash very rapidly and then slow down again. I have changed all the left turn signal bulbs and have not fixed the problem. Any suggestions?

2. When i park facing down hill, i believe it is the transmission that is leaking. Would that be the front seal?? If so...is it expensive to replace?

3. Needing new pads and rotors. What do you suggest? I do a lot of towing and "spirited" driving.

4. Rear pinion seal. How many times have you replaced yours? My dealer has done my 4 times and rebuilt the entire rear end twice.

5. What is the life expectancy of shocks? mine have 115k on them. Replacement suggestion??

Thanks all...
Adam

Re: A few questions...

Adam,

It's great to see another 5.9 guy here, mine just turned 45,000.

1.Check your Batt connections, for some reason JGC have issus with the connection to the batt, clean them with a store bought batt post cleaner along with the connecting cables.

2.If it's red fluid it could be your trans or trans case both use trans fluid, CHECK your fluid in your T case as you have the dreded VC that works off of fluid, if you leave it dry you may be in up to your neck, it's easy to check and fill, you have 2 screw in plugs one to fill one to drain, ones on the top ones on the bottom, I will let you guess what one is for what. It may be a good time to replace your trans fluid, it will help prolong the duty of your VC.
Find the leak by going under the jeep (keep it in park), thats the only way you are going to find out what is leaking. Yes the front trans seal is big money.

3. If you have the money go with sloted rotors, now I dont what to pee on anybodys feelings reading this, but unless you buy the big $$$ drilled rotors your going to get a crack from it. Run good drilled or go with cheaper slotted, depending on what the rotor maker does with the rotors you may end up with semimetal or organic pads. Shop Summitraceing.com

4.Welcome to the Alum D44 and all it's glory a POS but still better then the D35 (Currie the rearend people told me this). I was told that from the factory the shims were wrong, so they tend to eat bearings, and it's about a $300 job.

5. Shocks, the easy way of testing a shock is to push down as hard as you can on the jeep and let off and see how many times in rebounds, this is kinda hard with a 4x4 as the springs are big guaged, but that the way to do it.

I have found lots of aftermarket stuff for the JGC even a swaybar/coil/ shock kit made for driveing it on street "spirited", look around at summit raceing and you will find it.

Lots of shocks are out and around, you can buy shocks for 4x4ing and street driving baised, but Rancho makes ones that sense what silly stuff your doing, it may be your ticket, I may add that they "Up Country" Jeep made suspension has dam good shocks that stand up to allmost anything.

If you would liek to know more ask.

I hope this helped.

Man I love driving my jeep, It does mid 14s!!! form the factory it does this!!! You can even get a super charger for it as well as a new set of Edlbrock alum. heads that just came out.

The other day I had to cross a 2lane, on a kinda bilind curve, I had to get to the other side, well I got out and a car was comming just as I started to turn onto the road, I hammered it an broke 3 tires loose on the turn, wow man what a rush, I could feel the front switching traction from trie to tire.

I have the orignal Jeep 5.9 TV add if you want I will load it into my webpage so you can down load it?

There is a factory service bulletin on the '98 GC rear diferential. There may also be a recall, I'm not sure. I do all my own maintainance on my vehicles so it didn't help me, but I do know there was an issue with this year. FWIW, the parts cost me around $50 and it took around 3hrs in my shop to fix.

The 5.9 is bada$$! I've driven mine for almost 100k. I bought it used from a friends dad. Mine is the Canadian model. I wish fuel mileage was better. 93 Octane sure is expensive!

I would love to see that TV add. I also have a 98 5.2 Limited...boy is there a difference!

I ordered some brembo rotors and ceramic pads from tirerack today. I thought I would try them on brake parts since they do so well with tires. BTW, if you haven't tried the Dueler AT Revos yet...you don't know what you're missing...I hate those Wrangler HPs that came stock.

Re: A few questions...

I cleaned the battery connections and the signal still rapid flashes. It's just weird that it doesn't do it all the time.

Re: A few questions...

I dont know about the signal, try the relay it's self, I had one on my GO that did that and I replaced it and it was fine, however the one that was clicking fast was an eletronic one.

What are the differances with the Canadian model?

I know the ones over accross the drink have glass headlights with H4 bright ass bulbs. do you have these?

I'm getting around 13mpg what are you getting?

Have you read online how to add in the factory coolers?

The factory has no recall on the D44 haveing 3 JGCs I have delt with te dealer alot. I did talk to a guy that works at the assembly plant (so he said) and told me that the alignment at the factory was wrong and it eats the bearings.

I replaced the fluid in my 249T case with B&M syn trans fluid and noticed an improvement in MPG as well as off peddle feel.

I cant seem to load the movie into my webpage because its big, I'm going to add your name to my buddie list so that I can rem your name so when I resize it I will let you know.

Sound ok?

Do you have a pick of your jeep? I have the silver one.

I think i may just get a new relay...but i figured they either worked or they didn't.

As far as being a Canadian model, I do believe I have glass headlight, daytime running lights, and an engine block heater. Also, on the back hatch, the V-8 emblem and the "5.9 Litre" emblem are reversed. How does the American version spell "litre" ... "er" or "re"?

My mileage is horrible. Highway I get about 14 and city about 9 or so. 7 pulling a trailer empty or full and on the highway or not.

Can't wait to see that commercial!

Re: A few questions...

You know I dont know how they spelled litre on my jeep.... I get about 13 in the city and 14ish on the highway, wow 7 pulling a trailer....

I added the commercial as a new post out front so you can see it in the lobby.

The glass lights are great, I guess they are alot brighter then the 9004 bulbs, day time lights can be programed into the PCM as well as the 10mph doors locking, I lost the doors locking thing after I changed my battery, I did buy the 9Volt computer saver, but like an ass I pluged it into the wrong power thing.

I dont have a PCM programer so I havent changed it back, but when I do I'm switching the lights to day time running.

Do you have the off road package? front hooks and steering skid, t case skid, and gas tank skid?

Mine did not have it, but I did get a set from a guy who took his off his 5.9 so even tho it did'nt matter it's still from 5.9.

At about 90lbs I did notice a slight power loss, as the tires are a little harder to bark from a start on dry pavement.
