What kind of $$$ do I need to spend?
Hey guys...im about to get into a used '02 WRX. Im trading in my honda and the dealer is letting the subaru go for about $15,500. I have seen the WRX at the dragstrip and the auto-x and know that it responds well to mods....very well. I was wondering how much more am I gonna have to spend to have a mid-high 12 second, smooth-running daily driver?
My budget after this trade will be more than tight ...so any help here will be appreciated.

Just FYI, Vishnu's staged mods give you these numbers and $$'s: STAGE 2: 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds Standing ¼ mile in 12.6 seconds at 108mph $3375 with Standard Turbo-Back Exhaust (shown) STAGE 1: 0-60mph in 4.4 seconds Standing ¼ mile in 13.0 seconds at 100mph $1895 with Standard Turbo-Back Exhaust (shown) I'm not sure how "smooth-running daily-driver" it's going to be with these mods. |

I wouldn't exactly call a Stage 2 WRX "smooth-running", but it certainly won't be breaking down or having problems constantly, as long as you keep an eye on the tranny.

is Vishnu the way to go??? i heard Cobb has some good kits. My buddy has a stage 2 cobb wrx and it is the smoothest running/accelerating performance car i have ever had the priveledge of riding in. In these packages how are they freeing up the power? Do they use a turbo ugrade? Also, what is the reliability of these kits?

You know, the edit feature works, and is there for a reason.

Re: What kind of $$$ do I need to spend?
Ok so i have heard about Cobb also. My friend has a Cobb-tuned WRX sedan and he claims low 13's. He recommended Cobb.....but then again he got a terrible deal on his car and i dont think I am as financially stable as he is at the moment. Are the Vishnu packages better deals? What is first thing you would do w/ your $$$ is what im asking

Re: What kind of $$$ do I need to spend?
Both Vishnu and Cobb packages start out with an ECU reflash/remap. Where they slightly differ is the next step, in which Visnu replaces an uppipe, as opposed to Cobb, going with a turbo-back exhaust. Actually, Vishnu package also has an underdriven pulley, which some say has just a marginal power gain.
However, if you look at Vishnu Stage 1 and Cobb Stage 2, you end up with similar things: Vishnu Stage 1: ECU relflash, uppipe, turbo-back exhaust, underdriven pulley at 4.1/13.0 $1895 Cobb Stage 2: ECU remap, turbo-back exhaust at 4.6/13.4 $1561-1715 You can add an any aftermarket upipe to Cobb Stage 2 for about $200, and you can see that both the cost and (most likely) perfomance would be pretty much identical to that of Vishnu Stage 1. If you want to crack into 12 second range, Vishnu adds higher performace fuel pump, injectors, and a new turbo for significantly more $$. If you just want a power upgrade, Vishnu stage 0 seems to be a good starting point, and their reputation is superb. You can then step up from there, which would involve downpipe, exhaust, etc., which you can go in little steps. |
