hazards stop flashing when I apply my brakes on my chevy pick-up

When I press the brakes they work, when I try the signal lights they work, when I try the hazards they work, but when I press the brakes and use the turn signal all my lights to haywire and with the headlights on the taillights dim when using signal or brakes. When I put hazard lights on they flash but as soon as I press the brake they stop flashing, they just stay lit. I've checked all the wiring, and there is no trailer wiring, I've checked the fuses and bulbs, what's left. Could it be the turn signal switch in my steering column? Oh! and I did check the chasis ground, I removed it and sanded it, still the same problem.

The hazard flasher will be overridden by the brake lights, causing them to stop flashing. IF IT IS A 88-98, but you didn't say.

Any vehicle that does not have the amber turnsignal in the tail light section will do as you described. Car makers feel it is more important to say that you are stopping/stopped rather than tell them you might be moving slowly.

right. normal operation for the flashers to stop when pressing brake pedal. using the same filiments for the brake lamps. if you had amber hazards, it would be a different story.
