Question 700r4 or T5

i have both transmissions the 700 is in my car now and i just bought the t5 they are both in about the same condition, they both work they both will just need to be rebuilt so they can handle the 350. The questions is which one should i throw behind the 350 when i do the swap. ive been going back and forth on this for a few months now. whichever one i dont use im going to sell...to throw the money into the rebuild my tranny piggie bank. What do yall think will work better and longer.

Re: 700r4 or T5

If I remember correctly, the 700 is in the car now, right? If so, the question is do you really want to switch a a manual setup? Not only do you need to add a clutch pedal, but then you also have to plumb up clutch setup and pluas deal with the routine maintnance of clutch inspection and whatnot.

You ahve some pros and cons to think about.

Re: 700r4 or T5

Manual is superior. Dont rebuild (not worth it). Just get a low mlg one from any car. The conversion to manual is pretty simple too-again junk-yard parts. Since you put in the transmission just get a nice clutch (such as "Six pack") and you good to go. Screw all those people who say it wont hold up. Who cares, they are cheap and easy to replace. Automatics SUCK!!! (good for track only)

Re: 700r4 or T5

The T5 will die behind the 350. stick with the 700R4 and put a good rebuild kit, shift kit, and converter on it. trust me, youll be more than pleased. and its a helluva lot less of a headache than switching to a manual. a manual is more fun to drive if you have open roads, but im one of the few people ive met in real life that dosnt curse and spit venom at driving a manual in traffic. shit i live basically in D.C., so i kinda like having my automatic, easier to drive, and its faster as for putting a part on the car i know is gonna fail and ill have to replace on a regular basis, shit my car has enough problems from the factory that im dealing with, why the hell would i add to it lol.

Yeah dude automatic all the way, the 700R4 is one of the best trannies ever and can handle up to 500 torque, which ofcourse can be done after adding a few things like Erik said above me, it will be easier too since you dont have to do anything AND the 700R4 has the great overdrive thing that makes it one of the BEST transmissions for the street/everyday driving.

Re: 700r4 or T5

Screw that. Than get a T56 with a custom cross member
and whole bunch of other things to make it work. Manual is still way better. I drove many of them, but never a camaro with a t5.
It makes you feel like you are driving.
Gives more control over the car.
You can always push start it.

Re: 700r4 or T5

You know i was definitely along the lines of buying a T-5 and swapping it, but after a lot of thinking and researching, the 700r4 would be the better way to go. Just like 89 said (welcome back man, i didn't even know you came back, couldn't resist right?) add shift kit, bigger stall, rebuild, cooler, rachet shifter, the tranny would be bullet proof, and faster than a manual. And to do all that wouldn't even run you alot of money. I mean, who can shift better than the computer?

Not many can shift better than the computer, for those who say that manual is faster thats by a fraction of a sec..

Re: 700r4 or T5

A) The 700r4 IS NOT cpu controlled

B) most drag cars I've seen even tho they are 'auto' the driver still manually shifts each gear, instaed of replacing the tranny after each run I'd presume.

Re: 700r4 or T5

well, to be fair the fastest drag cars dont even have transmissions, they just have clutchpacks that they replace every run.

but the general breakdown is that manuals are more fun to drive, autos are faster, at least on a strait line, manuals are faster around a road course. as i said i have an auto tranny, and i definatly feel like im driving, i think someone who claims you have to have a manual to really be a driver is compensating for something......
