After switching to 5w30 royal purple, i hear a clicking sound

A couple of days after switching from 10w40 Castrol to Royal Purple 5w30. I now hear a clicking sound on the passenger side almost like either a lifter is damaged or maybe even a rocker arm is coming loose and is slapping around inside the valve cover. Its hard to tell. Anyone have this problem before? I would assume it's just something that went wrong on its own and had nothing to do with the switch from petro oil to full synthetic but i dont' know. If i pull the valve cover off and the rocker arms are fine, along with the springs. Then a hydraulic lifter? What else would be making a clicking sound other than those two things (lifter & rocker arm)? Thanks.

I believe 5W 30 is a little bit thinner then10W 40. From what you are describing it sounds like you have a collapsed hydraulic lifter.Sometimes they stick and that causes the rocker arm to clatter. Only other possibility broken spring. Had one break on a 93 cobra once.

what's the mileage? if it's high then most likely that's your problem. most likely it's from the shock of going from a 10w40 to a 5w30. how long have you ran 10w40 in it??( i work at a oil change shop. i deal with this kind of stuff on a daily bases)

also if you're running some big horsepower you'll want to stick with the 5w30. it has less drag for the engine to deal with. if it's high mileage engine(75k+) go with the valvoline Max life full Synthetic. make DAMN SURE it says that(advance once tryed to give me the basic stuff and said it was synthetic). do that untill you can rebuild your motor. the only down side is that it's not as good as Royal Purple or Redline.
but if your have any leaks it'll plug em up. if you go that way run the max. syn. for about 500 miles and the do another oil change with the max. syn. that should plug up damn near any leaks you have.
