Is this an ignition switch issue?????

I found this forum while searching for an answer to the problem on my 97 2 Dr Blazer. I must say though I was a bit confused because the thread I came across has 2 guys arguing back and forth on this issue. Anyways I'll start from the top. Though I was having fuel pump problems because it wasn't starting at times and died on the road a couple times. Changes out the $320 fuel pump and she fired right up even before were buttoned it up. Once finished I went to start it and she just cranked. When I turned the key again you could not hear the pump kick on. My buddy went to open the hood, which by the way you have to smack the hood to unlatch it. Anyways once he smaked the hood I turned the key again only this time I heard the pump and she started. It does this off and on and still died on the wife while driving. I think the fuel pump was probably ok but there is an electrical issue which I am hearing could be in the ignition switch. Has anyone heard what really may be the problem here? Thanks for any help in advance.

I also have a '97 LS 2 dr, and had both a bad switch and I replaced the pump.
Sounds like the typical switch failure.
Next time it happens, check to see if you have dash lights. Can you take the tranny out of park? when this happens. Answer no to any of these and you have a bad switch.

Me too changed the switch no more problems. I had tranny codes from a bad ignition switch.
