Timing Chain Tensioner
I,m confused
Just put together 97' Quad 4 DOHC, after warm up sounds like what I think is the timing chain slapping. Only does it at idle after motor warms up. I believe that there is a problem with timing chain tensioner. Here is the confusing part, everything I read in the service manual and here refers to "reloading the tensioner to zero", this tensioner is the hydraulic type, there does not appear to be any ratchet pawl or spring involved in this assembly. All there seems to be is a small piston that slides into the bore of the tensioner, no spring, pushes in with my finger and stays in. I assumed that oil pressure only held this out against the shoe. Am I missing something or is this the way it works? Tensioner plunger only pushes against the shoe, not attached to it.Help is greatly appreciated as I am ![]() Thanx, Rich

Re: Timing Chain Tensioner
any updates here?
I am just finishing my water pump install and need to know hot to reset the tensioner so I do not run into these issues. Mine is also the hydraulic one on a 96 2.4 thanks.. |
