I doubt anything will actually happen to that guy... I don't think cops are really going to go out of their way to find a guy that stole a cell phone. It's always been my experience that unless you have hard incontrovertable evidence as to who the perpetrator is, they aren't going to waste their time in trying to track him down, especially for something as cheap as a cell phone.
