more about my brakes

Hey all. Well I replaced the calliper. seems to be working fine. The problem I have is that the peice that the calliper bolts on to has stripped threads. So one of the mounting bolts wont tighten all the way down. Anybody know what its called and how much it is?

Haven't had it off in a while, but I'm pretty sure it bolts right to the spindle. Easiest fix would be to chase the stripped threads, if there's nothing left then you may need to retap the hole or pick up a spindle at a junk yard.

they're not completely gone. It bolts in a little but it just wont get tight. I dont know what chasing the threads means but I had planned on just going to the junk yard.

Another thing. The bleeder valve is almost imossible to reach. Can anyone recomend a tool that can get it done. I cant take one of my wheels off cuz of a lock nut. And I damaged the key trying to get it off. I'm thinking theres alot of air in the front brake system cuz they dont work and the peddle has no resistance. I havent changed the pads on the other calliper yet for obvious reasons. And could it possibly bolt into the steering knuckle? I'll take a picture

There is nowhere for the caliper to bolt to the knuckle, it only passes through it with the slide bolts and bushings. The slide bolt passed through the bushing and threads to the outside wall of the caliper.

What rims do you have on this car, are you able to get at the lock nut at all?

In about 40 seconds Im gonna attempt to driive it to les swab to get that lug nut taken off. I should be able to get there in one piece or getting pulled over. The peice it bolts into almost looks like some sort of bracket. I'll have to take a picture today and show you guys. Wish me luck driving that thing.

There may be a caliper bracket, and if so you could pull it off, and swap it with one from a junk yard. I don't remember there being a bracket though. I think is mounted to the steering knuckle, in which case you would have to replace the whole thing.

On the thread chasing: If the threads are only damaged a little, you can get a thread chaser (looks kinda like a bolt with a funny head and groves cut down the sides) the same thread size as the caliper bolt, and carefully run it through the hole, thus restoring the threads.

Thanx the drive went okay. The guy at the tire place said he's never seen anything like it before. Theres some kind of bracket on the shock.
He didnt know what to call it so he just called it a shock mount. Kinda wierd but I'll take a picture later today when I change the break pads on the other wheel. I'll see if shucks has one of those thread chasers. I hope that works save me alot of money and trouble.

Take the bolt with when you go, so they can determine the thread size

well the thread chaser worked like a charm on one of them. but the other is 2 far gone so I guess Im gonna have to get a new one. The problem still remains that I dont know what the thing is called. I took picures though. How do I post them on here?

Well the brakes are finally done. Much thanks to all who helped me out with this on this and the other thread. I think that part was the steering knuckle.
