Power Window Problem

My power windows do not operate from their own door switches, only from the driver's side, in a recently purchased 95 Chev Suburban. I found the "cutoff switch" (labeled NORM - LOCK") in-operable and disconnected. I installed a new one and reconnected it. Within 5 seconds the switch got hot and the circut breaker went out. I had to disconnect the switch to get the breaker to go on and for the windows to operate from the dr. side again. I reconnected it again and the same problem occurred. Has anyone out there had this happen to their Sub? Do I have a ground some place and if so where do I start looking?
Thanks!
