Oil level and oil pressure...

OK. The numbnuts at Walmart did an oil change for me a few days ago. And I just found out, after looking at the dipstick that they added at least 2.5 quarts to much. Has anyone really heard much about was overfilling you oil can do? I've heard that on some jettas, too much oil creates to much oil pressure and causes the lifts to act odd. Well, a lot of the problems that started with my car started after that oil change. Any ideas or past experience with this? I'm particually interested in what owners of the new 3.5 engines have to say about it. But, anyone can comment.

The Aurora 3.5 takes about 5.5 quarts plus .5 quart for the new filter. You should be using 6 quarts in any oil change with new filter. The documentation is pretty explicit about not overfilling the oil. If they actually put in 2.5 quarts too much, I'd remove it to achieve the proper level ASAP!

Yeah I know. I could fowl the spark plugs, etc.. I MADE them fix it yesterday. I did have to provide my own cartridge though. Anyways, when I explained to them what they did, and pointed out the fact that the car was relativly expensive they did the oil change for free....smart people Walmart. You stopped a lawsuit...

I would have changed the oil myself, but I've never actually done it, and didn't want to try until I really knew how to do it on this car. But, the oil has been changed and the car is actually running much better now! Thanks.

Re: Oil level and oil pressure...

4.0 should be 7.5 quarts. 8 will not cause any problems.

You brought your car to F'ing Walmart for service? What the hell did you think you going to get? I'm not trying to be a d*ck, but people need to think about the decisions they make with their rides. Going to the evil empire of Sam Walton would not be a good one.

Re: Re: Oil level and oil pressure...

when you decide to change your own oil. Most auto parts stores sell a container that is made like a drain pan and container combined. Some auto parts stores( Advance auto parts here in Virginia) have an oil disposal program. And they will dispose of your old oil. If your city have a recycling program, they will also take your used old. I also have a 5 gallon container that I pour my old oil in. And when it fills up, I take it to a disposal site, such as Advance Auto Parts. As for the filter, I drain it as much as I can. Then put it in a plastic bag,(such as a freezer bag) and put it in with my regular trash.
