92 tracker typical dead ecm?

ok my tracker was running & then it just shut off like someone turned off the key, now no restart, getting spark & fuel, clicking sounds under dash & near fuse panel. spray ether into the air box & it fires up for about 2 seconds & sputters to a stop. ecm dead? i've heard of a quick fix to see if its the ecm by running a wire from the coil to another wire somewhere else can anyone tell me exactly how to do this?
