Post 1999 Sonoma Starting issue

When I turn the key, everything comes on a normal. Most of the time the starte does not engage or run at all. Once in a while the starter will engage but it seems to be not fully engaged, I can hear the teeth grinding on the flywheel. I thought this sounded like the starter was the problem, so I bought a remanufactered one ($150). I installed it, and the truck started right up. But it sounded like the started was not quite fullly engaged. I turned off and started it up serveral times. I decided to adjust the started to move the gear closer to the flywheel by installing a shim on the outside bolt. When I tried again, nothing! The most it has done since then is rapid clicking, but not engaging or running. I don't think the issue is the battery, but I have it on charge now and will try in about an hour. I would be grateful for any suggestion.

hey man, your problem sounds like the starter, the bendix which is the gear that engages to turn the flywheel, may not be engaging all the way this will happen with reman parts , stick to delco- my wanna check the flywheel for teeth damage also.
