Idling High/Dieseling at shut off/accelerates on it's own/too much fuel
Hello everyone:
I have a 93 Saturn SL1 SOHC 5 Speed Here is my problem and I hope someone has an answer for me. My car Idles at 2-3000 RPM at start up, and it also suddenly accelerates between gear changes and intermittently revs at 2-3000 RPM while driving both hot and cold. We recently did a tune up changing the spark plugs, air filter, change the oil etc.. but that was before this started oh say about 2 weeks ago. We just changed the ECTS and that did not help. It also seems to be running very rich and it diesels when you turn it off, sputtering for a few seconds and finally cutting off. It also seems to be dumping too much fuel into the Throttle Body, in fact it is pooling on the lip of the TB. Any ideas on what might be wrong and is it possible for me to repair it myself without spending a fortune at the Saturn Dealer. Thanks in advance for your advice, |

Re: Idling High/Dieseling at shut off/accelerates on it's own/too much fuel
there are only two ways a EFI car can truely run-on after shut off. a leaking injectior or a bad fuel pressure regulator. a leaking injectior you may be able to visually see the injectior contining to spray/drip fuel after shut off. a bad fuel pressure regulator(by which i mean the rubber diaphram inside the FPR is leaking) can leak fuel into the vaccum line connecting it to the throttle body, basicly acting like a extra injectior that is always on. if you pull the line off of the FPR and it spits fuel out at ya, its safe to say the diaphram is busted

Re: Idling High/Dieseling at shut off/accelerates on it's own/too much fuel
Thanks for the advice, I checked those things and that didn't seem to be the problem to me. Although now the problem is getting worse, it still does all of this however now it is running rough and lurching as well and is also cutting out usually while going in reverse or starting in 1st gear. Any other suggestions? Could I have a bad fuel Pump? or clogged fuel filter on top of another problem?
Any help is much appreciated. |
