I am getting a VERY intermittant engine light. It only comes on when it is hot outside. Early morning/late evening when it is cool it's fine. I'm getting some surging also. I ran a diagnostic thingy on it and the error code that was retreived was 512. According to the book thats a Keep Alive Memory error . Umm Where is that memory located? Can any one tell me?Thanks... |

My booklet says, "Battery power memory locations in the computer used to store failure codes and some diagnostic parameters".
I wonder if you would get this code if the battery had been disconnected?

Where do you plug the code reader into? I have a '95 1.9L EX and couldn't locate the port.
Thanks. |

Re: 95 1.9L error code..
KAM or Keep Alive Memory is the memory in the computer. It could mean that the computer may have a problem. If you disconnect the battery, do the error codes go away? If so, then the computer may be getting power intermittently from the battery. If not, then there is some sort of internal battery or Flash memory holding the codes without the input of the car's battery. I would check the connectors going to the computer at both ends if you can to be sure there aren't any intermittent connections first. If push comes to shove, I would go to the junk yard and swap out the computer. Hope that helps.
