Amp to get for speakers

I'm a little confused as to what type of amp I would need for the speakers I have. They are Infinity 9612i 6x9 speakers. 100 RMS and 300 peak power. Should I essentially be looking for two single channel amps with around 300 watt output or a 2 channel amp with around 600 output? My deck is a JVC with 4x50 watt output. Also, my front 4x6 speakers are 60 watt RMS (Infinity 462.7cfp), would they benefit at all from amps?

ignore the max, running the speakers at max for long periods of time will kill them ,and the will most likly distort. you need a 2 X 100 @ 4ohms for the rear and a 2 x 60 @ 4ohms for the front. if you have outputs for both

So, would that mean that I would need either a single channel amp running at 100 watts @ 4 ohms for each rear speaker, or a 2 channel amp running a 200 watts @ 4 ohms? Would it be possible to go with a 400 watt 4 channel amp and have it only output 60 watts to each of the fronts, or is there even any point in running an amp to the front considering they already have 50 watts?

it depends on what you want, your putting out about 20-25W rms, thats what almost all HUs put out. if you plan on adding sum subs and what not then i would do that. you could get a 4x100, but it would over power the fronts and blow them.

get a 4X50 to 4X75 watt RMS amp ...... that should power them just fine. That head unit actually only puts out like 15-20 Watts RMS. ANY speaker benefits from good clean power.

paul has a point, your HU is going to clip when its above ~80% volume, the clipping point varys from company to company. an amp will eliviate this problem, to a point if you push the amps to 100% capcacity then they may/probably will clip

Thanks for all the help so far guys. I have a few more questions. I finally got my speakers installed and they start sounding bad at about volume 30 of 50. I'm assuming that it should go a bit louder than this without cracking and whatnot. So, would this be a problem with the old wiring of the car? Right now everything is new except the wiring. Also, when doing research on an amp with my speakers, I noticed that my front speakers are 2 ohm and my rear speakers are 4 ohm. Will this make a difference when buying an amp? The amps I have seen say 4 x ## at 4 ohm or 4 X ## at 2 ohm. Does this mean that the 2 ohm front speakers would get the 2 ohm wattage and the rears would get the 4 ohm wattage or does the ohms of the speaker effect the amp at all?

that's the nature of the game with the internal amp on head units ... on a scale of 50 volume points, it usually starts clipping around 30 or so - just the way they are made. And yes, if the speakers are 2 ohms, they will draw power at the 2 ohm rating.

like paul said, they were clipping, very few HUs can drive speakers @ full power unlcipped. hence external amps are used.
