How do you hold your parts?

Hi!

I just found this picture and I want to know what you guys are using to make this kind of stand to fix your parts.

* I took the pic from mickbench :-)

Thanks a lot!

Re: How do you hold your parts?

for the smaller parts it looks like a toothpick stuck into a piece of foam. as for the chassis... it looks like a can.

Yep, easy..!! Toothpicks with bluetac on the ends, stuck into foam sponges. The sponges are the type you use to clean the dishes with. Don't throw them away when they are too dirty to be used for dishes anymore. Keep them for small parts stands.

And I use the top of cans to hold larger parts.. Household bits and bobs that you would throw away are great for model building. You don't need to buy spray stands etc.. Just make your own.

Re: How do you hold your parts?

to paint the model body i use an old spray can(models seem to fit very well on the caps) or some sort of plastic bottle(water bottle, etc...) with some tape to hold the model on. i usually brush paint small parts and i just stick them on a toothpick with some tape.

Re: How do you hold your parts?

I mostly use an old sprue and run 3m blue tape across for small parts. I use toothpicks if the parts permit it.

Re: How do you hold your parts?

I use a toilet-roll middle. These are normally a great size to fit inside a car body roof, and a good length too. Use blue-tack or whatever to hold it, and use a rubber-glove when spraying.

Re: How do you hold your parts?

Thought this was a very personal question when i read the title!

Then I realised

For all small pieces I stick as many as I can onto a BBQ stick with blu-tak.Helps to keep wasted overspray to a minimum. I then stick the sticks into big blobs of b-tak to keep them 'air born' and pop them into a box with a lid.
For bodies (oo-er!) I use a plastic glove and spread my fingers inside til the touch the walls (man, that last sentense could be taken the wrong way )

So thats where your name Sticky Finger comes from J/k. For my small parts i just put them over a kneaded eraser ontop of the top of a can.

Re: How do you hold your parts?

Homemade paint stands for the bodies. A rectangular piece of .75" MDF, with a piece of wire bent into an inverted "L". THe base of the inverted "L" attaches to the inside of the roof with blu-tack. Toothpicks were applicable, metal "roach" clips with padded jaws for most other.

hth,
Bill

Re: How do you hold your parts?

I have the Tamiya paint stands, think they are brilliant. I use an awful lot of cocktail sticks and blu tack as well but the Tamiya car body holder is excellent as are the sprung clips for the flat table!

I thought about getting the Tamiya paint stand, is it OK for getting up under the bottom of car bodies? I like using a can and rubber glove, as I can turn the body upside down, but it is a pain having the carefully lift the body of a load of sticky tape and place into a container to dry... Even more so with the heavy wet coats..!!

Re: How do you hold your parts?

The paint stand is fantastic - it's sprung so it just holds the sides of the body, you can get right in to spray behind bumpers and stuff. You can just as easily hold it upside down with no fear of blu tack failing etc.
Rubber glove is to protect your hand right?
I use latex medical gloves (lucky enough to be able to get them from work) and throw away after every spray!
