knocking noise coming from rear axle???

I have just forked out £80 on a set of new shocks after growing increasingly worried about a knocking noise coming from the rear of the car when driving on bumpy roads and under heavy breaking. Unfortunately this did not fix the problem. In fact my old shocks were perfectly good (bloody mechanic!) The garage told me that this was a problem with the rear axle and would require a main dealer to fix the problem. I have read a message on this site with a similar problem which suggests: +++++Antil roll arm £12each did both sorted
Knocking noise in boot sounded like someone dropping brick in boot Axle bush (small) £25,track rod end £14 sorted+++++

Can anyone please please advise me on this. should i replace all of the above? (ANTI ROLL ARM, AXLE BUSH, TRACK ROD END) or is it more likely to be one of the three?

Any help would be appreciated

Subframe mounts, is that a big job?

Forgot to say that the knocking is less frequent when there is substancial weight in the back of the car.

It would make sense that the knocking is less with weight in the rear.

This is due to the weight pushing the car body and subframe together, therefore movement is less and knocking is less.

Theres a guide on www.pug306.net in the FAQ/Guides section.

It will take afew hours, so give yourself a day or 2. The parts wont cost more then £40 at a very maximum and you will require spanners, wrench n sockets etc.

I just lived with mine and was more concerned with the front knocking on rough ground. (anti-roll bar link, another common problem - bushes go and cause knocking - part is £13 roughly - 2 bolts to remove and replace)

Thats the post. he says its not a big job but it does mean removing the wheels, rear exhaust section etc

Typical, ive nearly solved one problem and a dash light indicating the need to change the fuel filter keeps coming on and off! JUst had a service and its still doing it. I will see if that is on pug306.net too.
