ATTN SI owners and EX owners, help with Cold Air

I am going to buy a new toy for my car. I am planning on buying an SI engine for my car soon, (i own an 98' ex) and i want a new intake. If i get the intake for my ex, will it fit the new SI engine? Also is there a difference between an AEM cold air and an AEM short ram?? Thanks for the help guys!

No the EX one will not work for the Si motor. The EX has a 2.5" tubing and the Si's is 2.75" tubing.

Yes there is a difference between short ram and cold air. Cold air gives you more power and it puts the filter inside your front bumper, short ram lets the filter sit in the engine bay.

No the ex intake will not fit on the new si motor.

The CAI sets the filter in the front bumper and because it is placed there it will suck in cold air(good for engine) and the short ram will rest in the engine bay sucking in warmer air, I have the AEM short stack on my civic and love it, sound, performance is much better, i love it

If I were to buy a new one I'd buy a CAI. But my K&N Typhoon did what I wanted though....I can tell the performance diffrence...granted it's not much but its noticable.

Yeah an intake will not give you "Holy penis i crapped my pants" power, but you notice the power increase from the butt dyno

I've been told it's posible to fit an EX filter to a b16, even though there's a difference in diameters. The rubber connector that joins the throttle body and the intake tube can accomodate the two diameters. As far as how the diff. in dia. affects performance, I don't know. As for more horsepower I'll go with CAI, because it takes in colder air, but be careful with puddles of water, unless you buy a by-pass, but this is said to lower performance. I'm also going for the swap, b16a into 97civicEX and I have an AEM CAI w/ by-pass. I'm keeping it for the b16

screw the bypass valve...unless your CAI is submerged in water you won't need it.
