Re: Rust

You need to grind it out, then treat the bare metal. When it comes to rust, I do not try to put a band on it, because it will continue to eat your car.

Re: Rust

Rust is like cancer, the only way to get rid of it or stop it is to remove it.

You need to clean it off, using a dremil and a soft sander, and then go buy this product POR - 15 http://www.por15.com/ which is what I use to paint any bare metal. I use the HARDNOSE version of their paint with the Grey color since I have a silver mustang. The paint is awesum, you can beat on it with a hammer, and it won't chip. We used this in the military, and it's the ONLY paint that is better than powercoating.

Basically when it comes to protecting your metal.. you have three choices...

Powder coating,
Line-X / Rhinolining
and POR 15........

and this POR 15 is actually the ONLY paint that will STOP rust. You can can actually paint over rusted stuff with it, and it will stop rust from getting worse.

That's correct. Home depo sells a sponge type sanding block, that's what I used. I also use the foam style sanding disc with my dremmil in the tight areas.
