Finding the year of an engine.

I was wondering is there anyway besides taking my car to the dealer to find out what year my engine is? I bought my car used and some friends have said the motor looks newer than the year of the car. Any help would be appreciated.

i believe there should be a stamp on the block...somewhere, like a little clock dial, one having the day, month, and year... tho i could be wrong, but i know thats how they normally do it.

And then both of you guys w/ you sewing maching powered cars get passed by a moped w/ a 5hp Engine and he goes on to put 5 car lengths on you. Racing an EX vs a DX is like a 10 speed bike vs a golden retriever.

I know that it is a D16Z6 Vtec engine.. Just curious as to how old the engine actually is... Whether the odometer is right or not... Thanks.
